Questions about Hermit ?

Hi there! My birthday is nearly coming up and I've asked my Mum if I could get a dog but she said no. She said that there is too much responsibility. Then I asked if I could get a guinea pig and she said no because she said they smell. Then I asked her if I could get hermit and she said yes! They are odor-less and are good with children right? She said yes because she thinks that the hermit are easy to take care of but I've been searching around on the net and they say that you actually have to buy quite a lot of things to keep them alive. I'm really excited till I get my hermit but I'm also kind of scared because I've never had a pet before. I'm also worried because I don't want my hermit to die. I've heard that you have to buy a thermometer, heating pad, de-chlorinated water, pooper scoopers and many more. We don't want to spend too much money on those things as well. I don't know if I need to buy all of those things so I'm kind of wondering what kind of supplies I NEED. I'm also wondering if I should buy a plastic tank with a handle on it or a gl tank that is bigger and safer. I also don't know how many hermit I'm getting. I'm thinking of getting 4 hermit crabs and putting them in a gl tank. I'm also wondering if I should use sand, gravel or I've seen these broken shells. They say that if I buy the sand, it's easier for them to burrow when they moult and when they want to get away from the heat. I was thinking of doing a half sand and half gravel so that they can have an option. I've also heard that you can paint their shells and decorate it but I've also heard that if the paint chips of it can kill them. What food is best for the hermit crabs? I've looked around and heard that there are many varieties like pellets, powdered and canned. What kind of fruit and veges do they like the most? Can they eat any meat? I've also watched some videos and they say that when you are purchasing the hermit crabs, you should choose the most active ones and not the ones that hide in their shell and that I should check if they are healthy or not. Also, when I went to a pet store, they were all sleeping so how can I check if they are active or not if they are sleeping? How do I handle the hermit crabs? I'm a bit scared to hold them because they have a large pincher that can even make your hand clean. I'm getting really confused on all these things and I just want the best for my hermit crabs. Sorry for asking so many questions but I hope you guys can answer them. :) These are some random questions but do hermit crabs poo or pee? How do they poo? How do I clean the tank without a pooper scooper and how often should I clean it? How much do I feed the crabs? Can I use tap water instead of bottled water. Can I use tap water when I spray the tank to make it humid? I'm also wondering on what names I should call them. These are some of my names and I have to pick only 4! (Spongebob, Pringles, Kermit, Amigo, Mickey, Bubbles, Twix, Ariel, Pepsi, Coral, Nemo.)Thanks for all your time!
