Manic Panic Purple Hair Dye?

I'd like to put purple streaks in my medium-brown hair. I love the Manic Panic "Purple Haze" and "UltraViolet" colors, but don't want to bleach my hair to get the effect. Can I still get a highlight without bleaching? And if I did get it to work, how long would it stay in my hair?
