If I want to be a police officer what should I major in?

I am looking to be a police officer in NY. I have not decided if I want to be a deputy or a state trooper. Either way I want to be a police officer and I am not sure what I should major in? I am currently in college to get my ociates in criminal justice but I have been told that I should try and go for something else. I now don’t know if I wasted my time as I am a semester away from getting my ociates degree in criminal justice. If I go to a 4 year school should I change my major completely or is a minor in psychology good.
