Late 80's or early 90's kickboxing movie question?

I watched a movie as a kid and I have never been able to find it again. In the beginning this guy loses a kickboxing match to his rival and shortly thereafter his wife/girlfriend leaves him for this other fighter. I don't remember much else besides at the end they engage in a street fight and main character is beaten and I think he actually dies. Sorry for the lack of detail, but hopefully someone else will know what I am talking about.
