What if a wedding card box disappeared?

i didnt have my wedding yet but i had an engagement party with about 247 guests. the venue of choice was a very nice and upscale place. the banquet manager was very attentive to my needs. while talking with my mother in private we decided not to have a gift box, but as i was getting ready the banquet manager informed me that she had put a gift box out there upon request of a guest...she ran it by me and with my rush i forgot all about it. at the end of the evening, since it wasn't our idea i forgot all about it. when i got home going through my gifts i realized i didnt have a card from my 2 bestfriend...right then my one girlfriend texted me and asked if i liked her card...long story short i called the next day in the morning and the banquet manager said the box wasn't there...now with the story told, WHAT DO I DO??? a week has ped and i dont know what to do...someone please give me some type of help...
