Windows Explorer has stopped working?

hen i try to delete a file (either in the desktop or in a directory) or move a file from directory to directory or rename a file; a message comes up saying that windows explorer has stopped working and then the desktop disapears and reappears and then it keeps repeating the same thing when i try and delete or move a file somewhere or rename a file... HELP ITS ANNOYING!!!!!
